Apprentice Patient/Data Assistant

Brief overview of the role

The Patient Assistant works in Reception - booking patients on the appointments system; dealing with enquiries; advising on doctors’ and nurses’ availability; recording and passing messages on accurately and efficiently; carrying out a range of related reception duties as appropriate.

The Data Team Assistant works as a prescriptions and data input clerk, responsible for responsible for processing prescriptions and inputting & updating medical data for an agreed set of patients; and all related administrative tasks.

Apprenticeship summary

Working week: The surgery is open 08.00 – 6.30pm Monday, Thursday and Friday, 08.00 – 08.00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Working hours will be on a rota basis and will be a min of 30 hours per week
Total hours per week: 37.00
Expected apprenticeship duration: 15 months
Possible start date: 1st February 2018
Apprenticeship level: Intermediate Level Apprenticeship

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Good level of computer literacy
  • Knowledge of office equipment/fax/copiers/switchboard/etc.
  • Word Processing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience of working with customers

Personal qualities

  • Must be versatile; flexible and enthusiastic
  • Can work within clearly defined guidelines and protocols
  • Friendly & warm with ability to empathise with patients
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Can work accurately and calmly under pressure

Qualifications required

English and Maths grade A - C (grade 4) or equivalent

Future prospects

Possibility of permanent, full time contract when apprenticeship is completed.
